- Using math words, such as "equal", "more" and "less"

- Counting beats and sounds
Reading:
- Music vocabulary words (melody, rhythm, beat, harmony, dynamics, tempo, tone color, texture, form)
- Reading song lyrics
- Finding rhyming words in songs
- Clapping syllables in words
- Reading rhythmic and melodic notation
- Left to right, left to right, left to right!
- Discussing characters, setting, plot, and story characteristics through musical stories such as "The Nutcracker" and "Peter and the Wolf"
- Reading information about instruments and composers
